Robot in an older adult community with many older adults.

HSU, LONG-JING

Hi, I am Long-Jing (Claire),
a Co-Designer and Roboticist (HRI) Specializing in Gerontology and Technology for Active Aging.

I work on creating co-design experiences that position older adults and their caregivers as central contributors to the design process. I aim to evolve co-design into a dynamic, active aging initiative, enhancing participant experiences and cultivating a collective sense of purpose and engagement with technology.

As a Ph.D. student in Informatics at Indiana University, my recent research involves collaborating with older adults, community stakeholders, memory care facilities, and technical teams. Together, we aim to design a robot that resonates with the users' ikigai, having robots in their life’s meaning and purpose. This initiative is a critical component of my doctoral research in Informatics under the guidance of  Dr. Selma Šabanović and Dr. David Crandall. Additionally, I work closely with caregivers and older adults to understand their needs and to improve their relationships, guided by Dr. Christina Chung. My goal is to contribute to a future where the process of designing technology and the end-product technology facilitates active aging in an inclusive, purposeful, and engaging manner.
